Australian electricity market prices

Computed across every currently listed residential electricity plan in the government's open energy data (superseded plan versions collapsed). Rebuilt whenever plan data changes — last rebuilt 2026-07-29. Usage rates and supply charges include GST; seasonal plans are read at today's season; tiered rates use the first pricing tier. Feed-in credits aren't subject to GST.

These are component statistics, not plan rankings. A low supply charge or a high feed-in rate doesn't make a plan cheap overall — retailers balance one against the other. The only ranking that matters is every plan priced against your usage: enter your postcode and this site does exactly that, free, with no personal details.

Cheapest daily supply charges

Each retailer's cheapest available plan by daily supply charge — the fixed cost you pay before using any electricity. Supply charges are largely set by which network (distributor) you're on, so compare within your network below.

Highest peak rates

The highest time-of-use peak rate each retailer currently lists — what you'd pay per kWh in the evening peak on that plan.

Appearing here is not evidence of a bad deal. A high peak rate is one number out of many, and it is often deliberately offset elsewhere on the same plan — a very low off-peak or overnight rate, a free-electricity window, a strong solar feed-in rate, or a low daily supply charge. Plans of this shape are built to reward shifting usage away from the peak, and for a household that can do so (an EV charged overnight, a timed hot-water or pool circuit, solar and a battery) one of these plans may well be the cheapest available — while the same plan would be an expensive choice for a household using most of its power at 6pm. Which it is for you depends entirely on when you use electricity, which is what pricing your own usage settles.

Highest solar feed-in rates

The highest rate each retailer currently pays per exported kWh (excluding closed government schemes). Capped bonus rates apply to the first N kWh per day, then drop to a base rate — a high headline rate with a small cap can pay less overall than a lower uncapped one.
