Editorial policy

This is how plans are ordered, what we are paid, and what we will not do. It is a policy rather than a description: if the site stops matching this page, the page is the thing that is right and the site is the thing to fix.

How plans are ordered

By estimated annual cost for the usage you entered, cheapest first. Nothing else moves a plan up the list — not the retailer, not how long they have been listed, not whether we have any arrangement with them.

You can change the order yourself at any time (annual cost, saving against your current plan, feed-in rate, and so on). Whatever you choose applies to every plan equally.

Sign-up credits, and how they affect the order

Some retailers pay us if you sign up through a link on this site. Where that is the case, we pass on a sign-up credit, and that credit is counted in the estimated cost by default.

Because the list is sorted on estimated cost, counting the credit can lift those plans up the list. We are telling you this rather than claiming otherwise: it is a real effect, it is on by default, and you can switch it off. Untick “Include referral discounts” and the ranking is calculated without any credit at all.

What the arrangement never does is change a plan's actual prices, its rates, or the data we hold about it. Those come from the retailer's own published data and are not ours to edit. Paying us buys a credit we pass to you and nothing else — no placement, no badge, no promotion, no exclusion of a competitor.

A sign-up credit is also not guaranteed to you personally. It depends on the retailer's terms and on your eligibility, which is why you can remove it from the sums with one click.

Plans you cannot take are still shown

Around two-thirds of listed plans carry some eligibility condition — a concession requirement, a bundle, a particular meter type. We show them with the condition stated rather than filtering them out, because a plan you are ineligible for is a different thing from a plan that does not exist, and hiding it would quietly change what “every plan” means.

What we cannot show you

We compare the plans retailers publish openly through the Consumer Data Right. Offers that are not published — some retention deals, and some EV-specific plans available only on request — cannot appear here, because we have no data for them. Our plan data covers NSW, Victoria, Queensland, South Australia, Tasmania and the ACT. It holds no plans for Western Australia or the Northern Territory.

Companion products that cannot be bought on their own — export-only products that price solar exports for a plan you already hold — are not listed as plans, because priced as one they read as costing nothing a year and would sort to the top. They appear inside the plan they pair with instead.

Estimates, not quotes

Every figure on this site is an estimate calculated from the usage you gave us. Your real bill depends on your actual consumption, the retailer accepting you, and the terms you sign. We would rather be wrong in the direction that does not flatter a plan, so where the published data is ambiguous we assume the more expensive reading and say we have done so.

What we will not do

• Take payment for a higher position, a badge, or a “featured” slot.
• Hide a cheaper plan because it earns us nothing.
• Sell, share or broker your details. We do not collect them.
• Contact you. There is no account and no mailing list.
