Where the plans come from

Prices and plan details come from the Consumer Data Right (CDR) feeds that every Australian energy retailer is required to publish — the same data behind the government's Energy Made Easy service. We refresh it regularly and show it as published, unmodified.

What can be missing

Retailers only have to publish their generally available plans. Offers with special eligibility — for example some EV plans that require proof of vehicle ownership, hardship arrangements, or individually negotiated deals — may not be in the published data and therefore can't appear here. If a specific offer matters to you (for example an EV tariff), check the retailer's own website as well.

Gas and electricity together

Gas plans can be compared too — flip the Gas switch. Note that the published data has no single plan covering both fuels: every plan is either electricity or gas. So the Elec + Gas view pairs one electricity plan with one gas plan from the same retailer, and you can swap either side for any of that retailer's other plans. Where a retailer sells the two together as a package we mark the pairing Bundle deal; otherwise it's marked Separate plans, meaning two independent plans that simply come from the same retailer.

We make every effort to combine and flag these plans accurately, but mistakes are possible — bundle conditions in particular are written in free text and can change. Always confirm the plan terms with your chosen retailer before committing, especially whether a bundle requires you to take both fuels.

Estimates, not quotes

Costs are estimates calculated from the usage details you enter, including GST. Your actual bills will vary with your real usage, meter type, network charges and fees. Always confirm the current rates and terms with the retailer before switching.

Where a plan's published data is ambiguous, we deliberately estimate on the high side rather than guess in the plan's favour. Some plans publish several demand charges covering the same hours, for example, with the season each one belongs to written only in the plan's terms; we charge all of them rather than pick one, which makes that plan look dearer than it probably is. We would rather overstate a cost than recommend a plan on a price you might not get. Any plan affected says so on its own cost breakdown, and you should check its rates with the retailer.

How this site makes money

Links marked referral are referral links. If you sign up through one, you receive the advertised sign-up credit and we may also receive a payment or credit from the retailer. You are never obligated to use a referral link — every plan can be taken up directly with the retailer, and a referral arrangement never changes a plan's published prices or the underlying plan data.

How this affects the order you see plans in. The sign-up credit is counted in cost estimates by default, so a plan carrying one is estimated — and therefore ranked — as costing that much less. That credit is a one-off sign-up bonus and subject to the retailer's own terms, so if you don't intend to use the referral link, or wouldn't qualify for the bonus, untick "Include referral discounts" to price and rank every plan without it. The referral row stays visible in the cost breakdown either way, so you can always see what it's worth and whether it moved a plan. Referral terms are linked next to each referral button. Retailer homepage links that aren't marked referral earn us nothing.

Searching and comparing requires no personal details. Your usage profile, meter data and preferences stay in your browser — they are not sent to or stored on our servers.
